NOVEMBER 24: ANNIVERSARIES IN THE WORLD

Today, November 24, 2023, the following historical events are commemorated:

1859: The first edition of the book "The Origin of Species", by Charles Darwin, is published. This work is considered one of the most important in the history of science, since it presents the theory of evolution by natural selection.

1870: The French poet, writer and playwright Isidore Ducasse, known as the Count of Lautréamont, dies. His work, characterized by his surrealism and his dark vision of reality, has made him one of the most influential authors of the 19th century.

1908: Argentine actress, singer and composer Libertad Lamarque is born. Considered one of the great divas of Latin American cinema and music, her career spanned more than seven decades.

1940: The Argentine writer and journalist Ricardo Piglia is born. Author of an extensive work that includes novels, short stories, essays and screenplays, Piglia is considered one of the most important Argentine writers of the second half of the 20th century.

1991: The Maastricht Treaty comes into force, establishing the European Union as an economic and political union.

In addition to these historical events, today is also celebrated the World Day against School Violence and Bullying. This day is commemorated with the aim of raising awareness in society about the importance to prevent and eradicate school violence and bullying, which are problems that affect millions of boys and girls around the world.
