WHAT WAS THE RESULT OF THE GENERAL ELECTIONS IN ARGENTINA?

On October 22, 2023, the Argentine presidential elections were held, in which the president and vice president of the Nation were elected for the period 2023-2027.

With 98.51%20 of the tables counted, the candidate of the ruling coalition Unión por la Patria (Peronism), Sergio Massa, obtained 36.68%20 of the votes, followed by the candidate of La Libertad Avanza (far-right), Javier Milei, with 29.99.

Since neither of the two candidates obtained an absolute majority of the votes, they will compete in the second round on November 19.

The election results were a surprise to many analysts, as Javier Milei was expected to be the candidate with the most votes in the first round. However, Sergio Massa managed to capitalize on voters' discontent with the management of Alberto Fernández and Cristina Kirchner, and managed to obtain an important victory.

The second round of elections will be a highly contested contest, as both candidates have strong support among their bases. The outcome of the elections will determine Argentina's political future for the next four years.
